Virtual Designing in a pandemic

The current state of the world has us all spending more time at home and rethinking how we work, how we spend time in our homes and have us all wondering about what the future holds. As we don’t know when the world will be returning to ‘normal’, we are all looking at our homes as a haven, and if we are going to spend more time at home, why not refresh some spaces and enjoy our homes?

This is the reason why online interior design services in Canada and over the world are suddenly so popular. Online interior designers like me, are able to help our clients to decorate their homes while honouring social distancing. Bibby Fine Interiors offer design services virtually with no in-person contact at all – our virtual interior design services include complete interior design services such as 3D rendering to smaller packages which is more online decorating with our accessories packages. We offer a variety of services, even if you just need interior design help online, we offer that service too with our Designer on Call packages – this is perfect if you just need a designer’s advice for a few hours.

This is an example of a 3D render of a home office, for some of us working from home will be part of our future working careers. Many workers and companies have realised that working from home is a great alternative when there is a pandemic. Video calls like Zoom are now part of every day life. If you need a custom Zoom room background we can offer that service too. Less time commuting also means less polution.

What is online interior design / remote design / virtual design and/or E-design? Online interior design is a collaboration between client and designer with all the communications being done by phone, email and video calls. The deliverables are also all digital – the designer will present you with a concept board, a 3D design and a shopping list for you to implement the design at you own pace and when your budget allows.

Because the home owner has to do some homework like measuring and taking photos and order their own products, there is much less time required from the designer. Full service in-person design usually includes everything, the design, ordering, receiving and installation of the design. With all these extra services not required by the designer with E-design, the result is a more affordable service. The other great benefit is that you can choose your designer from anywhere in the country – if a designer in your area does not fit your style and you love a designer from another city you can hire them.

E-design is perfect for the budget conscious home owner who wants design advice, but doesn’t mind executing the design plan by ordering and installing the design.

So how does it all work?

After completing an online questionnaire to determine the design style and goals of the client, the client then sends pictures of their space and measurements. In return, the client receives a fully executed design with a click-to-buy shopping list.

This is what it all entails:

 Questionnaire:

We look at our online questionnaire as the virtual answer to our in-person home consultation. The questionnaire is in an easy format for you to complete. We gain insight into your project, objectives, style and budget. We also collect information on your preferences for colour, hardware and finishes. This gives us a great starting point for getting the design started.

Client home work:

In order to start your design we will need measurements of your space and photos. If you have images from magazines or a Pinterest board with inspiration ideas you can share that with us too.

Some homeowners do feel daunted by the prospect of taking measurements and taking photos, that is why we offer a great guide on how to do this. We recommend that the client takes the overall measurement first and then add the smaller dimensions such as windows and doors. With the our smart phones, taking photos is a breeze – we recommend clients take a photo from each corner of their room, making sure they capture the main features such as windows, doors, ceilings and floors. With the photos the designer is able to get a panoramic view of the room and together with the measurements will draw up a floor plan to start the design process.

What you get:

Once we receive your measurements and photos, you relax while we start designing. Within 1-2 weeks we will present our design to you in two Concept boards. The concept boards are created based on the answers of your questionnaire and your inspiration photos or Pinterest board. The concept boards will show main furniture items, colours and finishes. You will be able to review these concept boards, together we will tweak the design and we will present a final concept board after that.

We will also be provided you with a 2D Floor plan and depending on the package you choose also a photo-realistic 3D render. These are great to visualise your design. And finally we will present you with a Click-the-link Shopping list.

We will also provide you with Installation instructions – these will be practical guidelines on how to execute the design, like where to exactly hang your art work and style your coffee table for example.

Happy clients with happy homes:

Here is some to the feedback we have received from past clients:

  • Convenient and Contact-free: Clients find the virtual process of everything being online very convenient in the current uncertain times. There are no in-home visits making the whole process perfectly safe.

The design process is so flexible – some clients start of doing just one room to see how the process works while other clients choose to do a complete home with multiple rooms.

  • Flat fees: With lots of home projects it is so easy to go over budget, but with our flat fees clients know the design fees up front and we design your space within your budget limits. No hidden costs and fees.

  • Personalised service. If we find that our standard packages does not suite the client, we are able to quote on a custom package – this often happens when a home is open plan. So if you don’t see the exact package to suite your home, then let’s talk!

  • Timing: An average design takes about 2 weeks and sometimes a bit quicker. The other advantage is that once you receive your design you are able to shop for all the items at once or shop later or shop is stages. You have your design in hand, and you can shop whenever your lifestyle or your budget permits

  • 3D renders: For many of us visualising our design is not easy to do. That is why our photo-realistic designs are so popular – clients can see the whole design before shopping for the items.

  • Endless options: If you live in a small town with a limited selection then is the perfect solution. As an online designer we have access to huge range of suppliers all over North America and know where to source to get your perfect look!

  • Design now, shop later! This is just perfect for these uncertain economic times. If you have time on your hands and want to decorate your home, then you can do it in stages. Only do the design phase now and when the economic future looks brighter, you then shop and implement the design.

  • Free paint board samples: We also offer online paint consultations and for clients in Canada and the USA, we will send free paint samples cards to your home, so you don’t have to go to a paint store. Convenient and safe. Read more here about our Online Paint consultations.
