Bibby Fine Interiors and Bibby Fine Furniture is a creative husband and wife team, we are located in Nelson in the heart of the Kootenays, British Columbia, Canada. We have a passion for all things beautiful and based on a lifetime of travel around the world, we can create a home that will tell your unique story.

Charmain Bibby is an Interior Designer and offers in-person and virtual interior design to clients all over Canada and the USA. Mike Bibby is a Fine Furniture Maker and specializes in custom fine furniture. He creates a custom fine wooden furniture using local sustainable hard woods.

Hi! I am Charmain

I started doing Interior Design as a second career in 2016 after life took some very interesting turns for me. Would you believe that in my twenties and thirties I was a Petroleum Geologist working on onshore and offshore oil rigs in a really scientific world - wearing overalls, boots and hard hats my main task was to find oil and gas? I was lucky enough to work in South Africa, Canada and Australia in the petroleum industry.

In 2000 my husband and I decided to sail around the world! Crazy idea, but we bought small boat at first and learned to sail in the beautiful Canadian Maritimes. We then bought our 35 ft steel boat, Vire Nord and set sail from the East Coast of Canada. For the next 8 years we went to amazing places - from tropical islands to snowy mountains and icebergs, we sailed over 80 000 kms crossing all the oceans and visited more than 20 countries.

The adventures didn’t stop there, in 2011 we became the proud parents of twins! We are lucky enough to have a boy and girl and as a family we love spending our time doing outdoor activities.

I spent many years being a full time Mom and in 2016 I as was ready to embark on my second career, this time a creative one. I always loved interiors and I have great eye for design. I opened my own Interior Design business in Cape Town (Bibby Interior Design) and ran that successfully until mid 2019, when we relocated to back to Canada.

Hi! I am Mike

I was born and raised in England and did a degree in geology at Dundee University, Scotland. My spent the first few years of my career in the offshore oil and gas industry in the UK North Sea.

A couple of years of that raised enough money to quit work and fund an extended kayaking trip to BC (1990) – after which I decided Canada had a lot more to offer than the small, overcrowded UK. Things got kind of put on hold for a few years when I got transferred to a resident expat position in sunny Cape Town, South Africa.

Here I met my future wife Charmain, also a Geologist and returned to Canada where we both worked in the oil and gas industry in Alberta and Nova Scotia. In Nova Scotia we bough seaworthy boat and set sail on a world circumnavigation in 2000. After 5 years of sailing we spent 3 years in Australia working in Australia and eventually sailed to South Africa where Charmain is from. We spent the next 12 years based in Cape Town with me working in remote places, away from home for long periods and then decided we needed a change….hence a move back to the mountains and rivers of BC, quitting work (for the last time) and doing the Fine Furniture course at Selkirk College in Nelson. The boat we went sailing in had been built by a retired cabinet maker from Quebec and was beautifully finished with a teak exterior and cherry wood inside - that has sparked my interest in work and I am enjoying my new creative second career.
